Russell Mason

Russell James Mason was born June 13, 1939, to Clark and Mona Mason. He graduated from Lewiston Senior High with the class of 1957. He lived in Lewiston, Idaho all his life and passed away on November 23, 2023, at Cascadia of Lewiston health care facility.

He married Jeri Jackson in 1959, they had one son, Ron, and they divorced in 1962. He remarried and he and his wife Virginia had been married for more than 50 years.

Rusty enjoyed cars, racing, motorcycles, and racing at Deer Park in his younger years. In the earlier days he and his family also enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, boating, hunting and a cabin in Dixie, Idaho.

He worked at Industrial Parts and Machine for many years, also owned a rental company and later owned the car-themed 50's Wayback restaurant in Lewiston.

Rusty was a main focal point for the LHS Class of 1957 class reunions and picnics, including organizing reunion receptions at his restaurant’s bar “The Zoo”. He was an organizer for alumni events such as the Tuesday coffee socials with fellow classmates and was the leader in organizing the LHS All Class Picnics.

He is survived by his wife and their sons Mark and Jeff, and son Ron McGuire and several grandchildren. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements but no memorial services are planned.
