Rosalind Catherine Gussenhoven Della Maggiora died
surrounded by beloved family Oct. 27, 2024. Born July 28,1939 in Havre,
MT, she spent her childhood in Lewiston, ID. She attended St. Joseph’s
nursing school in San Francisco, CA. While there, she met her husband of
66 years, Valdo Della Maggiora. They made their home, raising seven
children, in San Jose, CA.
A move back to her home town of Lewiston gave her professional and
personal opportunities. She finished her nursing degree, working later
as an oncology nurse and as a health inspector for the state of
California. She enjoyed being closer to her parents and siblings.
In retirement, Roz and Val traveled frequently to celebrate family
events. They also made trips to Italy, Argentina, and Thailand. In 2008,
they renewed their marriage vows in Lewiston where they’d married 50
years before. Roz loved being a mom, Nonna, Nonni-Nonni.
Besides family, Roz’s greatest joy was gardening. She created an eden in
San Jose, admired by all who passed by or visited. She was a lifelong
Catholic whose faith never wavered. She loved a good political argument.
Roz is survived by her husband Valdo, her seven children; Maria (Dave)
Ringold of Boise, ID, David (Amy) Della Maggiora of San Jose, CA,
Michael (Kim) Della Maggiora of Clarkston, WA, Dominic Della Maggiora of
Los Altos, CA, Anna (Kevin) Moore of Reno, NV, Peter (Mary) Della
Maggiora of Fremont, NE, and Daniel (Emily) Della Maggiora of Portland,
OR; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law
Kathy (Steve) Lawrence of Santa Rosa, CA; siblings, nieces,
nephews, and cousins. The family is deeply grateful for Christine
Burger, whose love and support sustained us allduring Mom’s final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Friday, November
22, 2024 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Christopher Church, 2278 Booksin Avenue
(At Curtner Avenue), San Jose. Private interment service on Saturday.
