Roberta was born August 1,
1939, in Pendleton, Oregon. She was the daughter of Russell and
Ola Huston Gilliland. The family lived in Ukiah, Oregon, for her
first few years then moved to Weston, Oregon, where she attended
Weston School and then later to Lewiston, Idaho, where she
graduated high school in 1957. She played in the marching band
and really enjoyed all the traveling they did. She also attended
Yakima Beauty School.
Roberta met the love of her life,
James Crofton, and they were married in Yakima, Wash., in 1958.
Shortly afterwards they moved to Weston where they have lived
for over 55 years. Roberta was mainly a stay-at-home mother
raising their two daughters and then later helping with her two
granddaughters that she adored. Roberta and Jimmy were very
supportive of their granddaughters and enjoyed watching their
programs and sporting events. She enjoyed fishing, camping,
canning fruit and planting flowers with her grandkids. For many
years her illness stopped her from doing many things but she
never missed going to the local coffee hangouts to visit with
the locals. Her will to survive was as strong as the Energizer
Bunny.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jimmy,”
daughters and sons-in-law Sally and Larry Henshaw of Pendleton,
Oregon, and Suzi and Loren Hoepfner of Weston, Oregon, and
granddaughters Katie and Jessie Henshaw, both of Weston, Oregon.
