Kurt Gustav Ragnar Sundelin
AGE: 77 • Wilmington
Kurt Gustav Ragnar Sundelin, age 77 of Wilmington, DE, passed
away on Wednesday, December 2, with his loving family at his
side.
Kurt was born in Pitea, Sweden, son of the late
Ragnar and Ellen (Thyni) Sundelin. He and his family immigrated
to the United States when he was 16 years old and settled in
Lewiston, Idaho. Kurt graduated from Lewiston High School and
later earned a BS in Pharmacy, BS in Chemistry and MS in
Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Idaho State University. Following
his marriage to Sharon Lance Sundelin in 1963, he attended the
University of Kansas where he completed a PhD in Medicinal
Chemistry. He worked as a research chemist for Shell Development
Company in Modesto, California, from 1969 until 1986 when he
moved to Delaware and there continued working as a research
chemist at DuPont Company's Stein-Haskell site until his
retirement in 1999.
Kurt was a member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) in which he held
several leadership positions, and for the last several years
served as the regional manager of the LDS Home Storage Center in
Bridgeport, New Jersey. Kurt enjoyed sharing details about his
Swedish heritage with family and friends and pursued several
other hobbies, including woodworking, reading, and working with
community Swedish history and science groups. With his family,
he visited numerous American and LDS Church history sites. He
loved the outdoors, particularly hiking, camping, and hunting
and was a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America. Kurt was a
devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, colleague and
friend. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his
wife of fifty-two years, Sharon (Lance) Sundelin, his children,
Lennart Kurt Ragnar Sundelin (Amy), Annica Kay Burns (Mitchel),
Margreta Maria Morgulas (Seth), Tore Lance Sundelin (Tiffany)
and Nils Anders Sundelin (Claudia), seven grandchildren, and his
siblings Anita Sundelin, Birgit Dornberger (Clifford) and Ragnar
Sundelin.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints Chapel, 500 W. Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, DE
19713. Family visitation preceded the service from 9:00 - 9:45
a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
In
