Richard A. Evans, 67, Spalding
 Richard
A. (Dick) Evans passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2007, at
his home in Spalding, after a courageous fight with Pancreatic
Cancer.
He was born Sept. 15, 1939, in Arlington, Wash., to Norman
Leslie Evans and Margaret June Kyle Evans. He moved to
Lewiston at age 10 and attended Webster Grade School,
graduating from Lewiston High School in 1957.
He joined the U.S. Army in September of 1957, doing a tour in
Germany. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division.
He was discharged in 1960 and returned to Lewiston, where he
joined the Teamsters Union and started driving truck.
He worked for the Star Motor Freight, Meats Inc. He then went
to Los Angeles and drove trucks on the loading and unloading
docks. He returned to Lewiston to work for Vern Johnson while
building the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, and Peter Kiewit building
the Levee in Lewiston for the Lower Granite Dam. In 1975, he
went to work for Poe Asphalt Paving and worked there until his
retirement in the Spring of 2000.
He met MariAne (Babe) Williams in January of 1971 and they
were married in November 1972, in Reno, Nev.
He enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona, Palm
Springs, Calif., San Diego, Mexico, and Hawaii.
His hobbies were woodworking, skiing, fishing, and boating on
North Idaho Lake in the Summer time. He also enjoyed his
membership with the Eagles Lodge No. 2809 in Gig Harbor, Wash.
He is survived by his wife, MariAne, at the family home;
mother, June Howard of Lewiston; stepchildren, Charles
Williams and Bunny of Lapwai, Todd and wife Cheryl of
Sandpoint, Idaho, Randy and wife Sandy Spray of Lewiston,
Robert and Mary Spray of Coeur d'Alene, and Wendy and husband
Scott Hall of Goldendale, Wash.; brother, Donald Evans and
wife Sharon of Mission, Texas; granddaughter, Brandi Williams
of Lewiston; grandsons, Joshua Spray of Coeur d'Alene, Jerad
and Jacob Spray of Phoenix, and Dalton Jaekel of Goldendale,
and Dustin and Cody Williams of Coeur d'Alene; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Leslie Evans.
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of
cremation and a celebration of his life will be from noon to 4
p.m. June 2 at the Lewiston Elks Club.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St.
Joseph's Regional Medical Center Hospice, P.O. Box 719,
Lewiston, Idaho, 83501.
The family would like to send a special Thank You to the
following individuals; Dr. Michael Rooney, Dr. Kent Anderson,
Dr. Carlos Bond, Dr. Michael Baldeck; also to the hospice
nurses, Linda Swearingen, Sandy Chetwood, Pat, Tammy and Lynn
for the wonderful care and attention they gave Dick during his
recent illness.
