Cecil Darrel Nelson, a former Lewiston
resident, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. He was 63.
He was born Oct. 16, 1938, to Arthur and Elsie Stephens Nelson in
Winchester, and moved to Lewiston as a young child. He attended Tammany
Grade School and Lewiston High School.
After high school, he worked at the Potlatch Forests Inc. pulp and paper
mill.
He married Sharon Snyder June 10, 1960, and they moved to Brookings,
Ore., in 1964. He was a shareholder of Brookings Plywood until the mill
sold, and then he worked as a millwright for South Coast Lumber until
his retirement in March 1994.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to go to his yearly family
campout. He enjoyed taking photographs of his family and especially his
grandchildren, and the many deer, turkey, quail and raccoons that came
into his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, at the family home in Brookings;
sons Darrel Nelson and wife, Michelle, and Darren Nelson and wife,
Athena, all of Brookings; daughters, Darla Nelson of Lewiston and Karla
Nelson of Palisades, N.Y.; two brothers, Gene Nelson of Lewiston and Ken
Nelson of Las Vegas; stepmother, Elly Nelson; one stepbrother, Steve
Giere; and stepsisters Sue Ryan and Lisa DeMaio; seven grandchildren,
Marc, Derek, Ryan, Megan, Jordan, Caydn and Brittney; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Gilkey.
He is much loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by
all.
A memorial service is planned for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church of
New Hope, 1421 Powers Ave., Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
